Niantic VPS
Niantic’s Visual Positioning System (VPS), global map, and World Pose technology provide the most sophisticated AI-powered world-understanding and positioning technology for your applications, across operating systems and device types.
VPS
Achieve centimeter scale positioning and continuous relocalization through AI-powered cloud services and client SDKs
Niantic’s VPS is a cross-platform, engine-agnostic solution, independent of specific hardware vendors and walled-garden ecosystems. It provides industry-leading accuracy for geolocation and 6 degrees of freedom (6 DOF) orientation and tracking across pre-mapped worldwide locations. Our mapping technologies and solutions enable new areas to be quickly and easily added, directly by end users or through our on-demand mapping service.
Key Features
-
Cross-platform compatibility, engine-agnostic
-
Centimeter-level accuracy for geolocation and 6 DOF orientation
-
Over 1 million live, pre-mapped global locations
-
Rapid daily expansion of mapped locations
-
Independent of hardware vendors and closed ecosystems
Private VPS
Create access-controlled VPS locations
Private VPS enables the creation and management of access-controlled VPS locations, giving owners full control over visibility, access, and lifecycle of each location and its scan data. Billing is based on the number of locations managed.
Key Features
-
Controlled visibility and access to VPS locations
-
Owner-managed lifecycle and scan data
-
Flexible billing based on location quantity
-
Secure, private environments for customized AR experiences
On-Demand Mapping
Expand geospatial data for more precise mapping
Niantic’s on-demand mapping service works with Niantic’s VPS to provide an expanded geospatial data system for areas not yet fully mapped. It utilizes direct user input or service requests to rapidly generate precise location maps, resulting in highly accurate and stable positioning data for AR experiences.
Key Use Cases
-
Rapid expansion of geospatial coverage for AR apps
-
Precise mapping of user-defined or requested locations
-
Enhanced geographic data for augmenting AR experiences
-
Scalable, accurate location mapping for macro-scale projects
The technology to build digital experiences for the real world
Persist AR Across Sessions and Users
Localize users and persist AR content with centimeter-level accuracy in seconds. Using Niantic’s technology, you can create applications with content and experiences embedded in the real world and persist at locations over time. End users will see and experience the applications that you develop in exactly the same way. This is the future of spatial computing – your imagination is the only limit.
2D, 3D Audio and Visual Content
Niantic's VPS enables developer applications to position 2D, 3D, audio and visual content with centimeter scale accuracy to power AR and location-based solutions – 3D overlays and interactive content, audio visual guides, dynamic gaming and marketing experiences, and much more.
Future-Proof Technology
Niantic’s VPS works today across thousands of handsets running iOS and Android and a growing number of AR and MR headsets. Developers can also use Niantic Studio to create immersive, cross-platform WebAR experiences. You can build your applications around Niantic VPS with confidence that your solution can be accessed using today’s handset technology and future headset technology.
World Pose
Improve accuracy using geo-coordinates
World Pose is a client SDK that works with VPS to provide an enhanced geographic positioning system for broad areas not yet fully covered by VPS. It uses computer vision to update and refine position and location estimates, using the camera. This results in more accurate and stable device positioning and orientation, supporting macro-scale AR experiences using geo-referenced coordinates.
Key Use Cases
-
Enhanced AR apps with precise location-based interactions
-
Accurate third-person views of device location on a 3D map
-
Geographic data integration for augmenting camera views
-
Procedural generation of virtual worlds mirroring real-world topology
